Magdalene at the heart of a unique altarpiece
The centerpiece of the church is the late‑Gothic winged altarpiece from 1509, crafted in the workshop of Sterzing/Vipiteno master Mattheis Stöberl. At its centre: the Assumption of Saint Mary Magdalene, flanked by mining‑patron saints Georg and Laurentius, and the donors in typical miner’s dress. Scenes from Magdalene’s life, numerous mining‑related saints and fine carvings make this altarpiece an impressive work of art.
