High above Mareit/Mareta near Ratschings/Racines stands the Regional Museum of Hunting and Fishing in Wolfsthurn Castle, just a few kilometers from Sterzing. Here, amidst Baroque splendor, awaits a cultural-historical journey: hunting artifacts, fishing ceramics, folk art – and rooms that still bring the noble world of the 18th and 19th centuries to life.
The museum, located in the historic main wing of the castle, takes you on a two-story story-filled journey: On the 1st floor, you will find the cultural-historical exhibition about hunting and fishing – with dioramas of native animals as well as the changing practices of hunting and fishing over time. On the 2nd floor, the originally preserved state rooms lead you through the living worlds of the nobility: furniture, paintings, fabric wallpapers with hunting motifs, and a sparkling crystal chandelier tell the story of Baroque life.
