Cross-Country Skiing in the Ratschingstal Valley

Cross-country skiers will find their perfect track in the Ratschingstal Valley – whether you're a relaxed recreational skier or a performance-driven athlete.

There are two completely different trails, both free of charge: The Ratschingstal Valley trail offers ideal conditions for beginners or leisurely skiing in classic or skating style, stretching over approx. 12 km through beautiful winter scenery.

For those aiming higher, the Platschjoch/Monte Piatto high-altitude trail in the Ratschings–Jaufen ski area at 1,800 m above sea level is a real highlight. Breathtaking panoramic views, fresh mountain air, and a sun-drenched location make this loop trail a special experience – often skiable well into late spring.

Route Description

This trail starts in Bichl/Colle near Innerratschings/Racines di Dentro and runs with a gentle incline through the entire valley to the end in Flading/Vallettina. The well-groomed track follows the Ratschings stream and is ideal for easy training sessions surrounded by a peaceful winter wonderland.

Flading: parking available at the valley’s end

Take the 8-seater Ratschings–Jaufen gondola to reach the mountain station at around 1,800 m. From there, it’s just a short walk to the start of the Platschjoch/Monte Piatto trail, located below the Rinneralm chairlift’s base station. The 14.9 km loop leads toward the Kalcheralm, crosses the Jaufen Pass road, and winds through the high alpine terrain around Platschjoch. The return is along the same path – a scenic loop with unforgettable views!

Alternative entry:
You can also access the trail from the Kalcheralm car park along the Jaufen Pass road. This puts you in the middle of the loop, allowing you to head toward Platschjoch or back toward the ski area – ideal for flexible routes or shorter tours.

You can rent cross-country ski equipment directly on-site at Rent & Go in Ratschings, located near the base station of the Ratschings–Jaufen gondola. Classic and skating sets, including boots and poles, are available – perfect for a spontaneous day on the trail.
