The starting point of this hike is Obertal. From here, the itinerary initially follows trail no. 12A towards the Bergalm mountain hut. Further on, the path branches off to the right, leading to the Gurgl waterfall. Proceeding along trail no. 12A, you can reach the Bergalm mountain hut.

Public transport
The starting point cannot be reached directly by public transport. It is possible to travel as far as the “Mittertal/Val di Mezzo” stop on bus line 314 (Sterzing/Vipiteno – Jaufental/Val Giovo) and continue on foot along the Birgl circular trail (trail no. 13 and 13B) until reaching the path to the waterfall (approx. 1 hour, 250 metres of elevation gain). From Sterzing, follow the road into the Jaufental valley until you reach Obertal. Turn left shortlyafter passing theMaurerhof farm and proceed to the starting point of the trail.
