My Top 3 winter adventures

It’s pretty unlikely that you’ll find a comparable winter experience in any other place: The countryside just too unique, and the opportunities too many. So what are the absolute musts when you’re holidaying in Ratschings?

I know, I know, there are slopes everywhere. But the ones in the Ratschings-Jaufen ski resort are absolutely spectacular! The fun begins up at 2,150 metres, where over 25 kilometres of slopes and 5 ski huts are ready and waiting. And just to make sure that nobody misses out on the fun, there are perfectly-groomed slopes ranging in difficulty from easy to moderately challenging, a 5km long sledge run and 16 kilometres of high-altitude panorama at its best on the cross-country trail.

The scent of oranges and cinnamon. The fairy lights and Christmassy music. Local specialities and exquisite handcrafts. If the Sterzing Christmas market doesn’t kindle your Christmas spirit, then I’m at a loss to help.

And if I’m not in the mood for the hectic life, I head off on the solitary winter trails on a snowshoe hike, leaving my footprints behind me in the pure fresh snow and enjoying the peace and the incredible views before I tuck in to a hearty lunch at one of the mountain huts that are open year-round. As an alternative option, I heartily recommend embarking on a stunning ski tour or a cross-country expedition along the perfectly-groomed trails!
