Before high-grade material could be transported to the smelting works in the valley, the ore minerals had to be separated as much as possible from the gangue rock. The more carefully ore was processed, the higher the quality of the material delivered to the smelters. This video illustrates how laborious yet ingenious this process was — combining muscle power, water power and great skill.
