Circular hike to the Gilfenklamm gorge via the Reifenegg Castle ruins

The hike starts in Stange and follows trail no. 1A to the ticket office of the Gilfenklamm gorge. The route leads through the impressive gorge, crossing flights of steps and bridges, until reaching the locality of Jaufensteg. The return route follows trail no. 11A out of the valley via the Reifenegg ruins, before leading back to the starting point in Stange along trail no. 1A.

Refreshment stops are available either at the Gasthaus zur Gilfenklamm tavern in Stange or at the Gasthof Jaufensteg tavern in Jaufensteg.

Description to arrive at destination

From Sterzing, follow the signs towards the Ratschingstal and Ridnauntal valleys. Continue past Gasteig to Stange, the starting point of this hike.

Parking

Parking is available in the car park at the entrance to the Gilfenklamm gorge, located on the left-hand side shortly before Hotel Ratschingserhof when arriving from Sterzing. Alternatively, parking is also available at the sports area in Stange.

Public transport

The starting point can be reached by bus line 319 (Sterzing/Vipiteno – Ratschings/Racines) and bus line 312 (Sterzing/Vipiteno – Ridnaun/Val Ridanna). Get off at the“Stange” stop. Further information on timetables and connections is available at www.suedtirolmobil.info/en.
