Starting from the Mining Museum in Maiern, at the end of the Ridnauntal valley, the route initially follows trail no. 9. The ascent can either be made through the impressive Burkhardklamm gorge (trail no. 8) or by continuing along trail no. 9 outside the gorge. Beyond the gorge, both routes rejoin at the dam on the Aglsböden plateau.
