From Maiern to the Zunderspitze peak – circular route through the Staudenbergtal valley

This hike starts at the Bergl farms in Maiern in the Ridnauntal valley. Follow trail no. 29B along a gravel track before continuing through the forest on trail no. 29 to the Untere Gewingesalm mountain hut. From here, trail no. 29 ascends to the Obere Gewingesalm mountainhut and continues to the summit of Zunderspitze. The return route follows a scenic circular trail: from the Obere Gewingesalm mountain hut, descend on trail no. 29A to the Martalm mountain hut in the Staudenbergtal side valley. Finally, trail no. 30 leads out of the valley and back to the starting point at Bergl.

Description to arrive at destination

From Sterzing, continue through the Ridnauntal valley to Maiern and follow the road as far as Hotel Schneeberg. Continue for approximately 800 metres to the Berglfarms, where parking is available on the right-hand side of the road.

Parking

Parking is available near the starting point on the right-hand side of the road.

Public transport

The starting point cannot be reached directly by public transport. It is possible to travel as far as the “Maiern” stop on bus line 312 (Sterzing/Vipiteno – Ridnaun/Val Ridanna) and continue on foot to the starting point (approx. 20 min., 50 metres of elevation gain).
